What can the average person buy with a million dollars? Cartier watch encrusted with diamonds? A small fleet of Bentley Continentals? Or maybe just a car park in New York City’s SoHo?
At 42 Crosby Street in New York, a construction developer has offered a property with 10 underground parking spaces that costs more per square foot than the price of an apartment sold on the property’s upper floors.
The parking lots, each priced at $1 million, will be offered to the first bidder, according to the New York Times.
The real estate agent said that the space offered for sale represents a “great value”, and assured those wishing to buy that the space is sufficient to park a car the size of a “Range Rover” or “Bentley Continental”.
The real estate developer expressed confidence that it would be able to sell the parking lots at the offered prices.
For the price of that parking lot, one could buy a 5,000-square-foot home in Dallas, or a 3,500-square-foot home in Seattle.
It is noteworthy that parking prices in New York are generally high, amounting to about half a million dollars, and it is not the only city that suffers from staggeringly high prices.
In Britain, parking space in Kingston was sold for about half a million pounds, or about $800,000, according to the British newspaper, The Independent.
That’s the equivalent of buying an eight-bedroom house in Yorkshire or a seaside lighthouse in Scotland.
