Nissan recalls more than 188,000 cars due to brake defects

Nissan Motor Co. said on Wednesday it is recalling 188,302 sport utility vehicles worldwide, mostly in the United States, to fix a brake-control software flaw that could increase the risk of a collision.

In the United States, the recall affects 151,695 model year 2013 and 2014 Pathfinder vehicles, the 2013 model year Infiniti JX-35 and the 2014 model year QX60, it said.

It said the recall also includes smaller numbers of cars in Canada, China, Russia, Mexico and other countries.

It stated that in the cars involved in the recall, software settings in the brake system may cause the cars to stop after a distance beyond what drivers expect on bumpy or non-straight roads.

The company said it would notify vehicle owners within 60 days and dealers would reprogram the brake system at no cost, according to documents posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.
