The British unit “Rolls-Royce”, affiliated to the German company BMW, said today that its market in Saudi Arabia and the UAE has become among its largest markets in the world during the year 2011, which witnessed a record number of sales.

The company, which manufactures one of the world’s most luxurious cars, said it sold 3,583 cars in 2011, an increase of 31% compared to 2010, despite the ongoing turmoil in the global economy.

The company noted that 2011 was the best year in its 107-year history and that its sales surpassed the previous record set in 1978 when it sold 3,347 vehicles.

The UAE ranked fourth in terms of the number of cars sold, Saudi Arabia fifth, while the first three countries came in large and densely populated countries, namely China, the United States of America and Germany.

It is noteworthy that “Rolls-Royce” was not the only one among luxury car makers announcing a significant increase in sales, as it was preceded by “Bentley”, which announced last week that its sales for the year 2011 amounted to 7003 cars, a significant increase of 37% over sales in 2010, as announced by “Porsche”. Also, its sales increased 22% thanks to the sharp increase in sales in China.
