An American court condemns a famous fast food restaurant for a hot piece of chicken

A US court has convicted a McDonald’s restaurant after an autistic child suffered second-degree burns from a hot piece of chicken in 2019.

The mother claimed that she bought two meals for her son and daughter through the restaurant’s driveway, and delivered the food to her two children in the back seat, but she was surprised by the screams of her autistic daughter and saw burns on her thigh, which she documented with pictures.

She told jurors that her daughter suffered groin burns after a small piece of chicken fell on her and got stuck between her thigh and the seat belt for two minutes, accusing McDonald’s of failing to warn customers of the dangerous food temperature.

The restaurant’s lawyers responded that the chicken pieces must be hot to avoid the risk of salmonella, and that the piece was not made in a way that allows it to hang for a period between the seat belt and the body for more than two minutes.

The jurors accused McDonald’s and parent company, Upchurch Foods, of negligence and failure to warn customers of the dangers of hot food.
