World Health Organization: Using sugar substitutes does not reduce weight and causes serious diseases

The World Health Organization said that the use of artificial sweeteners is not useful in reducing body fat, and its long-term use may have harms, such as an increased risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The organization stated that artificial sweeteners include stevia and its derivatives, saccharin, sucralose, aspartame, advantame, neotame, cyclamates, and acesulfame K.

And it recommended not to use artificial sweeteners as “sugar substitutes” to control weight or reduce non-communicable diseases, with the exception of people with diabetes, and personal care products such as toothpaste, skin cream and medicines.
