Montana bans TikTok

Montana Governor Greg Ganforte announced the signing of legislation banning the operation of the Chinese-owned short video sharing app TikTok in the state, which is the first in the United States to make this decision.

According to the new legislation, which is a precedent of its kind in the United States, it is prohibited for mobile application stores within the state to provide the “Tik Tok” application.

The app, owned by Chinese technology company ByteDance, has been facing growing calls from some US lawmakers to ban it across the country over concerns about potential Chinese government influence over the platform.
