A shocking study.. Drought strikes half of the world’s lakes
A recent study conducted by researchers from the University of Colorado, USA, confirmed that drought has affected more than half of the world’s lakes and reservoirs, as the amount of water in lakes has shrunk and evaporated in reservoirs due to global warming.
The study indicated, according to the scientific magazine “Science”, that the shrinkage of water in these lakes and reservoirs caused the suffering of about 25% of the world’s population, as this affected water consumption, agriculture or electricity production.
The researchers used satellites to monitor the level of drought in these water bodies, and the study provided a detailed presentation of the drought rates and the affecting climate changes.
