For his part, the Attorney General of the state of Baja California, Ricardo Ivan Carpio, announced in a statement that a truck that had been used by the attackers was found at the site, inside it was stained with blood and its frame bore traces of bullets.

And he considered that indications indicate that a confrontation took place between suspected criminals, which included gunfire, and investigations are still underway to find out the motive for the confrontation.

Video clips spread on social media showed the bodies of the victims on a sidewalk next to four-wheel drive cars, while the Red Cross treated a number of the wounded before transferring them to hospitals in the city.

Baja California, with its desert expanses, attracts off-road car races involving drivers from all over the world, and among the most famous races in which it organizes is the “Baja 1000” rally.
