A recent study: This is the main cause of obesity, and surgeries may deter it
A recent study conducted by a team of international researchers revealed that toxic substances that leak from the intestines can interfere with the functioning of fat cells and lead to obesity.
Fragments of gut microbes that enter the bloodstream reduce normal fat cell function and metabolic activity, which worsens with weight gain, explained Mark Christian, a molecular biologist at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, and one of the study’s co-authors, published in the journal BMC Medicine. Which contributes to an increased risk of diabetes.
The study was conducted on 156 people, 63 of whom were classified as obese, and 26 of them underwent obesity surgery. It concluded that endotoxins reduce the body’s ability to convert white fat cells into fat cells that resemble the structure and reduce the amount of stored fat.
This process is considered essential in maintaining a healthy weight, and if scientists can learn more about how it works and how to control it, it opens up more potential treatments for obesity.
The study authors also noted that bariatric surgery may reduce levels of endotoxins in the blood, increasing its value as a method of weight control.
