A person with paraplegia has regained his normal ability to walk by thinking, thanks to a combination of electronic chips implanted in the brain and spine, which allowed the restoration of communication between the brain and spinal cord.
The Dutchman Gert Yan, according to the American newspaper “nytimes”, was suffering from a spinal cord injury at the level of the cervical vertebrae as a result of a bicycle accident 10 years ago, which made him lose his ability to walk.
This was achieved as a result of research conducted by teams in France and Switzerland over 10 years, where electrodes were implanted over the area of the brain responsible for the movements of the legs, which decode the electrical signals generated by the brain when a person thinks about walking.
