A study revealed the creation of a device that works with a new genius technology, which contributed to restoring the ability to move and walk to a paralyzed man for more than a decade.
And according to the “Nature” medical magazine, the Dutchman, Gert Jan Exam, regained his ability to walk, using the device that acts as a link between the brain and muscles to issue and implement movement orders.
The study showed that Dr. Gregoire Courtine and his colleagues from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne developed and implanted the device that secures a link between the brain and the spine, to establish a direct neural connection between the brain and the spinal cord.
She added that the device requires the implantation of small stitches to receive movement orders in the brain, the intentions of movement, to transmit these commands wirelessly from the patient’s brain to the processing unit that the patient wears like a bag on his back.
It is noteworthy that the Dutch man was paralyzed in an accident that hit his neck while he was riding a bicycle in 2011, and with the new device, Gert was able to climb stairs and walk for about 100 meters in each experiment.
