Awards for 3 Arab films at the conclusion of the Cannes Film Festival

The jury of the “Un Certain Regard” competition at the Cannes Film Festival, which ends its 76th session today (Saturday), announced that the Sudanese film “Goodbye Julia” directed by Mohamed Kordofani won the Freedom Award.

The film takes place in Khartoum during the few years preceding the secession of the south from the north, and it is the first Sudanese participation in the festival, starring Cyran Riak, Eman Youssef and Nizar Juma.

The Moroccan Asmaa Al-Director won the directing award for the movie “White Lies”, and the movie “Gangs” by Moroccan director Kamal Lazraq won the jury award, while the current session witnessed wide Arab participation from Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Sudan and Jordan.

It is noteworthy that the list selected for the competition included 20 films by directors from France, Australia, China, Canada, Argentina, Chile, England, South Korea, Portugal, Brazil, Mongolia and Iran.
