It plans to compete with “Boeing” and “Airbus”. The first Chinese-made passenger plane takes off
The first Chinese-made “C919” passenger plane took off today (Sunday) on its first commercial flight, as this represents a quantum leap for China, which seeks to compete with the West in this field.
Footage broadcast by the official CCTV channel showed the Chinese Eastern Airlines Flight No. MU 9191 taking off from Hongqiao Airport in Shanghai at approximately 10:30 am, heading to Beijing International Airport with 130 passengers on board.
Footage broadcast by state media showed dozens of passengers gathering at Shanghai airport to prepare to board the plane, which was manufactured by China’s state-owned commercial airline Comac.
China has invested heavily to produce this aircraft locally, as part of its quest to achieve self-sufficiency in the field of key technologies, as Beijing hopes that the “C919” will compete with famous Western models such as the “Boeing 737 Max” and “Airbus A320”.
And the “CCTV” channel confirmed that starting tomorrow, “C919” will fly between Shanghai and the southwestern city of Chengdu.
It is noteworthy that the first “C919” aircraft, which can accommodate 164 passengers, was officially delivered to “Eastern Airlines” last December, and last January, Zhang Yujin, deputy general manager of “COMAC” told “The Paper” newspaper. Semi-official Chinese, that the company has received more than 1200 orders for the purchase of “C919”.
