An American couple found more than a million copper pennies hidden in the basement in one of the corners of the house, which belongs to the wife’s father, while they were doing their annual cleaning work, and its current value is estimated at about one million dollars.

The husband, John Reyes, explained, according to the Los Angeles Times, that these pennies were kept inside bags, on which were written the names of some banks, which he had not heard of or no longer existed.

Reyes added that Elizabeth’s father likely began collecting pennies once the United States began switching from copper to zinc.

He pointed out that after making sure that it was made of pure copper, its value was estimated at about one million dollars, pointing out that he wanted to sell it as a whole and not in parts.

Pennies were initially made of pure copper until the US Mint switched to zinc-coated steel in 1943.
