A group of “indigenous people in Indonesia” called for cutting off internet access in their area, to reduce the negative impact of smartphones and the virtual world on their members.

In a letter to the authorities, representatives of the Badoi group explained that the telecommunications antennas built near their area may threaten the lifestyle of residents and the mental health of young people who may be inclined to use the Internet.

For their part, local officials confirmed that they had received the letter, on Monday, and agreed to speak with the Indonesian Ministry of Information to try to respond to this request.

The members of this community, which chose to live in the jungle, rejecting traditional technology, financial services and education, reside in 3 villages spread over an area of 4 thousand hectares, an hour’s drive from the capital, Jakarta.
