Stockholm witnessed the launch of the first fully autonomous civilian electric vehicle, becoming the first city in the world to launch this type of marine transportation.

The CEO of the Norwegian “Torgatn” company that undertook the completion of this project, Stein Olsen, described this event as a revolutionary day for all, pointing out that the company guarantees the safety of the passengers who will board the boat.

Starting next (Monday), the boat called “MF Estelle”, whose first model cost about 1.5 million euros, will start moving within short trips of up to a few hundred meters between several islands in central Stockholm.

For his part, Erik Nielsen, in charge of operations at Torgatten, explained that the autonomy of the small boat, which is about 10 meters long, is due to different systems.

He added that there are “radar”, “AIS”, additional cameras and ultrasound systems that allow us to monitor obstacles that the boat may encounter, noting that this independent system works like a captain, as he sees and drives like him.

It is noteworthy that this boat is capable of accommodating a maximum of 30 people, and the ticket price for one-way transportation will be 35 Swedish kronor, equivalent to 3.2 dollars.
