Ford recalls more than a million cars due to a “fatal defect”

The American automaker Ford announced, Thursday, the recall of about 1.5 million cars, to address a defect in the fuel tank systems that could lead to possible breakdowns or accidents.

The company said in a statement that the recall process will include Ford Focus cars produced from 2012 to 2018 with 2.0-liter engines to address valve problems that may lead to fuel tank deformation and inaccurate fuel level readings.

“This could lead to a stop while driving or an inability to restart the vehicle, which could increase the risk of accidents,” she added.

The recall includes about 1.3 million vehicles in the United States, 136,300 vehicles in Canada and 44,500 vehicles in Mexico.

Ford said it had not received reports of any injuries or accidents due to the problem.
