King Saud Medical City warned that excessive caffeine intake during lactation is harmful to the health of the infant, so the breastfeeding woman should not consume more than 300 mg per day.
The city explained that caffeine is found in energy drinks (80 to 160 mg), soft drinks (40 mg), chocolate (10 to 25 mg), coffee and tea (100 to 140 mg).
She pointed out that the best alternatives to caffeine-free drinks include herbal teas (anise and mint), mineral water, caffeine-free coffee and tea, and fresh natural juices (a cup not exceeding 150 ml per day).
