Volkswagen official: We are considering offering autonomous driving via pay-as-you-go
A Volkswagen official said that his company is considering offering self-driving cars to users on a pay-as-you-go basis.
“With regard to autonomous driving, we can imagine that it can be offered on an hourly usage basis,” Klaus Zellmer, responsible for sales, marketing and after-sales services, told Die Welt.
He added: “We assume a price of 7 euros per hour, if you do not want to drive yourself for three hours, you can pay 21 euros to do that, self-driving cars will be available to everyone in this way.”
Automakers around the world aim to generate new cash flows by developing automotive software-related services.
Thomas Ulbrich, who is in charge of development at Volkswagen, announced that the company plans to provide digital services to drivers of its electric cars by the second quarter of 2022.
