Tesla cuts the price of the Y model amid troubles for the auto sector due to Corona
Tesla slashed the price of its Model Y SUV by $3,000 just four months after its launch, as the US electric car company seeks to maintain sales momentum in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This follows discounts in May on the Models 3, X and S.
The company headed by Elon Musk announced this month a smaller-than-expected decline in car deliveries for the second quarter of the year, despite the pandemic that has ravaged the global auto industry.
The Model Y now starts at $49,990, down about six percent from its previous price of $52,990, according to the company’s website.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
The company began deliveries of the Model Y in March.
In April, Tesla announced that the Model Y had made a profit, marking the first time in the company’s 17-year history that a new car had made a profit in its first quarter.
