Official statistics revealed that the number of vehicles in the Kingdom, which amounts to more than 12 million vehicles, consume about 910 thousand barrels of gasoline and diesel per day.
These statistics indicated that the transport sector consumes about 22% of the total primary energy consumed in Saudi Arabia, 90% of which goes to the land transport sector.
The rising consumption of energy is due to the fact that the Kingdom is one of the countries with increasing population growth rates. This puts pressure on energy consumption of all kinds.
Official sources expected the vehicle fleet to continue to grow in the coming years, to reach more than 26 million vehicles by 2030, and to increase its consumption of gasoline and diesel to about 1.86 million barrels per day.
