“Makkah Transport” threatens taxis that mount billboards with severe penalties

The Department of Transport and Roads in Makkah Al-Mukarramah Region said that it had instructed its oversight committees to tighten penalties for taxi drivers and operating companies, which resorted to advertising activities, by installing billboards inside their cars, stressing that they should not be complacent in this.

Makkah newspaper quoted the Director General of the Transportation and Roads Department at the Ministry of Communications branch in the Holy Capital, Eng. Khaled Al-Otaibi, that the practice of any advertising activity by taxis is a regular violation, and a violation of the purpose for which it was licensed, which is the transportation of passengers.

A number of taxi drivers explained that the billboards installed in their cars were installed by companies and they do not have the right to refuse, indicating that the billboards target the back seats of the car, and they are operated via a cable connected to the car’s electricity, and display advertisements that are fed by the cable, in exchange for sums of money. Limousine companies charge money.
